About Me

Writing is self indulgent.  Writing about yourself is moreso.  But in general I find if people are going to go ahead and read badly phrased complaints they might want to know a little bit about the person doing the complaining.  I actually hate this part of any sort of online experience.  The need to lay out who you are without sounding egotistical or lame is difficult to pull off.  I will now demonstrate this by failing to pull it off.

My name (obviously) is Kelly.  I was born in 1977 which makes me 31 at the moment but likely I am many years older now because I am sort of terrible about ever updating things like that.  I work in IT and a position with no job title.  Or I might have one no one is sharing with me.  I worked for several Fortune 500 companies until a very well known and incredibly stereotypical Canadian company bought my division from a Fortune 100 company.  This company while large and publicly traded is literally like nothing I have ever worked for before.  Sometimes that is awesome, sometimes it isn’t.  We don’t believe in org charts or policies.  But in other ways I love it.  I spend a lot of time talking to various Canadians in the company or have traveled with them.  This has led me to the concept that Canada is NOT the 51st state and we aren’t as much alike as we think.  I tried putine for these people.  They repaid me by taking pictures in a Cracker Barrel (as in touristy this is a cool place pictures) and making me listen to endless treatises on the differenced between Canadian and American money and culture.  I once insulted them by joking the only good export Canada has is comedians.  I consider many of them friends and a handful enemies.

I am a nut about politics.  This was a fairly direct result of my years spent in policy debate.  Only know I realize not everything leads to nuclear war.  I am a reformed Libertarian after several years in the party.  I now am most closely aligned with Democrats.  I consider myself to be a raging Liberal and am ok with that.  Socialism isn’t all bad.  But I also believe that no matter what our political beliefs most of us want the same destination.  Safe neighborhoods, good schools, stability, happiness.  And I also acknowledge the fact that I at best only am going to be right a very small portion of the time.  I want government and leaders who want to govern and lead the whole country, not just their base (I am looking at you W!).

I was maried in 1997.  Yes if you do the math I was very young.  I don’t regret it, but I would not have done it that way over again.  I believe that many things would have been different (as in a better sort of different) if my husband and I would have waited.  He is older than me.  But a decent enough amount that until recently it still mattered.  His name is Tom, he is funny, and he is the one who got me writing again.

I have a son who was born in June of 2000 which makes him 8 as of this writing.  He is brilliant and lacking in all common sense.  His name is Thomas.  He was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and on Good Morning America in Fall of 2008.  He is a redhead as well.  Although he is past the stage of being itty bitty and therefore adorable he seems to be liked by more people than I.

I am exactly who I am.  Sometimes that is great and I like it.  Other times my world and myself appear to be spinning wildly out of control.  I do not like that.  I strive to be smarter, kinder, and happier.
